Russia and Iran condemn US actions to resuscitate sanctions

Washington's attempts to reanimate sanctions against Tehran are unlawful, the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry said on August 21. This opinion was expressed by Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and Iranian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Kazem Jalali during a meeting in Moscow today, August 21. The illegality of US steps to reanimate anti-Iranian sanctions by using the provisions of resolution 2231, taking into account Washington's loss of rights in the framework of this document after the unilateral withdrawal from the [Joint Comprehensive] Action Plan, was emphasized, the report said. As previously reported by the news agency, the American side initiated the restoration of the UN Security Council resolutions, which would resume sanctions against Iran allegedly for violation by this country of the terms of the nuclear deal (JCPOA).
