London's statements about the law on national security in Hong Kong are gross interference in the internal affairs of China, said Chinese Ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming. Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the law on national security in Hong Kong contradicts the provisions of the British-Chinese declaration on the autonomy of this region. The Chinese embassy noted that on July 1, Liu Xiaoming met with British Deputy Foreign Minister Simon MacDonald. The Chinese diplomat categorically rejected the unfounded accusations regarding the national security law in Hong Kong, and outlined Beijing's position. He stressed that the statements of the British side constitute gross interference in the internal affairs of China, they contradict the principles of mutual respect and non-interference. China strongly rejects such statements and is seriously concerned about them. According to the news agency, on June 30, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress approved the law on the protection of Hong Kong's national security, after which Chinese President Xi Jinping signed a decree on the entry into force of the law.
