Leader Lelo for Georgia: elected reform can be adopted without opposition
Opposition participation in the vote in the Parliament of Georgia for the adoption of the bill on electoral reform in the third reading, scheduled for June 29, is not necessary. This was told to reporters by party leader Lelo for Georgia and the largest Georgian banker Mamuka Khazaradze, the agency InterprossNews reports. Parliamentary opposition parties United National Movement and European Georgia refuse to participate in the vote on the reform, which they have long sought from the ruling Georgian Dream party. The reason for this was that the co-owner of the Mtavari Arkhi channel, George Rurua, suspected of illegally carrying weapons, is being detained. Whether the parliamentary opposition will be present, they must decide for themselves, the Georgian dream and independent deputies have enough votes for the bill to be adopted, said Khazaradze. He expressed the hope that the bill would be adopted, and this would be a step towards greater democracy and equality in elections. It is worth noting that in the second reading the bill on electoral reform was adopted without the participation of European Georgia and the Unified National Movement. With the required 113 votes, 115 were gained.
