Donor blood reserves in Indonesia's capital fall 70%
Donor blood supplies in Indonesia's capital due to the coronavirus pandemic have decreased by 70%, said Linda Lukitari Waseso, a spokesman for the Indonesian Red Cross. This is reported on May 14 by Singapore TV channel CNA. The largest deficit is in Jakarta, where, due to restrictive measures related to the coronavirus pandemic, stocks have decreased by 70%, a red cross spokeswoman said. According to her, in the regions this indicator is from 30% to 60%. Vaseso attributes the critical situation to the fact that due to the suspension of work of many enterprises on them it is impossible to organize a traditional campaign on blood delivery. The second reason for the shortage, according to the expert, is the month of ramadan, during which blood collection is traditionally reduced. According to the news agency, 15,438 cases of SARS-CoV -2 infection have been confirmed in Indonesia. The number of deaths reached 1,028, giving one of the highest mortality rates in the world from COVID-19-related complications.
